DESCRIPTION:Registration Opens on 02/03/2026.  \nIn this hands-on sampler class\, you’ll craft your own custom leather belt from start to finish! Designed for beginners and curious creatives alike\, this class introduces the fundamentals of leatherwork while guiding you through each step of building a high-quality belt you’ll be proud to wear. You’ll begin by cutting strips of Herman Oak or English Bridle Leather or selecting from premium belt blanks and choosing your hardware. Then\, you’ll measure and cut your belt to size\, punch holes\, and shape the billet and buckle ends. After a brief demo\, you’ll practice edge beveling\, dyeing\, and burnishing to give your belt a clean\, refined look. Finally\, you’ll attach your buckle using rivets or Chicago screws\, and have the option to add a custom stamp to personalize your piece. No experience necessary! \nLearning Objectives: \n\nLearn the characteristics of high-quality belt leather\, including vegetable-tanned and bridle hides.\nUnderstand how to size\, cut\, and prepare leather for a custom-fit belt.\nPractice using essential leatherworking tools to mark holes\, set hardware\, and shape belt ends.\nExplore edge finishing techniques\, including beveling\, dyeing\, and burnishing\, for a professional polish.\nOptionally personalize your belt with hand-stamped initials or decorative impressions.

Join us for a fun evening where we will create a custom\, stamped leather coaster\, bracelet\, or other small item. You can bring in a 4” round design\, sketch a design in class\, or use one of the templates provided. \nYou will learn how to case the leather\, transfer your design\, cut with a swivel knife\, and use tools such as lifters\, bevels\, and backgrounding stamps to create any design you desire! Once your carving is complete\, you will learn to finish the edges\, dye your creation\, and add a protective coating. An educational overview of types of leather\, leather tools\, and methods of finishing your products will be provided.

Whether you’re new to working with leather or looking to sharpen your skills\, this class offers a complete introduction to essential tools\, techniques\, and finishing methods. By the end\, you’ll leave with a professional-quality tag that’s durable\, stylish\, and uniquely yours. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand different types and weights of leather and their uses\nLearn how to design\, cut\, dye\, and sew a small leather project\nPractice saddle stitching\, edge finishing\, and applying protective topcoats\nGain confidence using traditional hand tools such as pricking irons\, bevelers\, and burnishers\n\nClass 1: Introduction to Leatherwork & Design\nWe’ll begin with an overview of leather types\, tools\, and best practices\, referencing helpful resources like the 4H Leatherworking Manual. Students will choose a luggage tag template\, select leather dye and thread colors\, and begin construction.
